As part of the 2023 “Happy Spring Festival” Chinese Lantern Festival Gala of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China, two concerts jointly staged by several young artists from the iSING! Suzhou International Young Artists Festival and the Philadelphia Orchestra in the United States were broadcast by a number of online platforms on Feb 5.
iSING! Suzhou, an annual event in Suzhou since 2014, is the first international festival for vocalists in the country. So far, more than 350 young singers from over 30 countries and regions have taken part in the festival’s training programs and events devised to help them increase their artistic attainments and learn more about Chinese culture and art.
The concerts, themed “Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems”, was given at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall in Philadelphia on Jan 6, and at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in New York on Jan 7. They were the first large-scale Chinese-American cultural exchange event held in the USA after China relaxed COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The concerts featured works with lyrics by several ancient Chinese poets and music by young composers from six countries. More than 3,000 audiences watched the performances on site.
The synchronous broadcast on a number of the country’s most popular online platforms including Tencent Video and Bilibili enabled more people to enjoy the highly praised music works.
