The countdown has begun for the opening of the Jinji Lake Tunnel which is expected to cut down the travel time between the east and west banks of Jinji Lake to three minutes after it comes into use at the end of this year.
The two-way six-lane tunnel, about 5.4 kilometers long, including an about 3-kilometer section in the lake, extends from Xinghai Street on Jinji Lake’s west bank to Nanshi Street on the east bank. It is now under decoration.
SIP has built a number of tunnels through lakes since the beginning of the 21st century to alleviate the traffic pressure on roads and water. In addition to the Jinji Lake Tunnel, the No. 2 Dushu Lake Tunnel is scheduled to complete this year, too.
